{"id":1093,"date":"2026-04-23T08:51:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yasbou.com\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2026-04-23T08:51:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:51:00","slug":"former-new-order-bassist-peter-hook-says-he-wont-stand-with-his-bandmates-in-the-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-not-after-what-theyve-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yasbou.com\/?p=1093","title":{"rendered":"Former New Order bassist Peter Hook says he won&#8217;t stand with his bandmates in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: &#8216;Not after what they&#8217;ve done&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about to induct two of Britain&#8217;s most influential artists, but don&#8217;t expect a feel-good reunion when the lights come on.<\/p>\n<p>As Joy Division and New Order prepare to be honored together, both groups&#8217; founding bassist Peter Hook has made it clear that he won&#8217;t even be able to match his former bandmates on stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No, no, not after what they did to me and my family, no,&#8221; Hook, 70, told Rolling Stone when asked if he would perform with Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Joy Division and New Order founding bassist Peter Hook is refusing to reunite with his former bandmates at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. <span class=\"credit\">Future releases via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t support them. No, I couldn&#8217;t give it to them.&#8221; [how it would work]. I don&#8217;t care. You have to have morals. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tensions between Hook and his bandmates date back many years. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>After Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis died by suicide in 1980, the remaining members reunited as New Order.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>New Order 1989, from left: Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Peter Hook, Gillian Gilbert. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, Hook left the band in 2007, believing at the time that the group was over. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, the other members reunited in 2011 without a hook, sparking a long legal dispute over royalties and use of the band&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<p>Hook, who hasn&#8217;t spoken to some of his former bandmates in more than a decade, says he&#8217;s still looking forward to joining the band in November, but it&#8217;s not their fault.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sumner and Hook perform on stage at London&#8217;s Brixton Academy in October 2001. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many reasons\u2026because none of the other members of the band are there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hook wasn&#8217;t shy about how that influence still shapes his stance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If Bernard were to turn his head around and say, &#8216;Hey, Hooky, I&#8217;m sorry that eight years of legal battles cost you six years of wages. I&#8217;m so sorry. Life is full of surprises. It&#8217;s going to be a wonderful life,&#8221; he said with more than sarcasm.<\/p>\n<p>The legal battle was finally resolved in 2017, but even if the settlement was on paper, there was no real settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Hook said he hasn&#8217;t had contact with Sumner in 15 years, Gilbert in 15 years and Morris in four or five years.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Peter Hook &#038; The Light performing live at Let&#8217;s Rock Leeds on June 22, 2024. <span class=\"credit\">SOPA Image\/LightRocket (via Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Regarding the possibility of co-starring, Hook said, &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t look too good, buddy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s someone you can\u2019t stand, but you don\u2019t know it when you look at her or her or anyone, and you think if you met her you would kill her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And if she comes up to you and hugs you, you&#8217;re probably like, &#8216;Oh.&#8217; So, how the hell would I know?&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>On December 6, 1986, Sumner and Hook performed with New Order at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. <span class=\"credit\">Boston Globe (via Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hook also dismissed the idea of \u200b\u200ba one-night truce for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After what we&#8217;ve been through, we can&#8217;t just have a &#8216;truce overnight,'&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you knew what we&#8217;ve been through, you wouldn&#8217;t even suggest that&#8230;There&#8217;s a lot of bad blood under that big bridge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Still, Hook left the door barely open, joking that famously feuding brothers and fellow Hall of Famers Liam and Noel Gallagher (recently reunited on Oasis&#8217; comeback tour) might step in as &#8220;mentors&#8221; or &#8220;mediators.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After announcing their appointment, New Order took a much more diplomatic tone in thanking their fans and reflecting on their decades-long career.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From our beginnings as Joy Division to New Order&#8217;s evolutionary journey, this honor reflects nearly 50 years of resilience that has defined our path with our fans, collaborators, and those who are sadly no longer with us,&#8221; the band said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not bad for some bands that had no idea what they were doing&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script>  <br \/>#Order #bassist #Peter #Hook #wont #stand #bandmates #Rock #Roll #Hall #Fame #theyve<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about to induct two of Britain&#8217;s most influential artists, but don&#8217;t expect a feel-good reunion when the lights come on.
