We’ve already told you about the TV shows we can’t wait to return to this summer. But there’s a chance we’re even more excited about the brand new series gracing our screens…and it’s not just because Beth Dutton is back. (do not have do not have<\/em> Because that’s what it is. )<\/p>\n

The list below compiles the 10 most intriguing upcoming shows from May to August. In addition to the aforementioned return of “Yellowstone” firecracker Beth Dutton (from Paramount+’s “Dutton Ranch”), our picks also include Prime Video’s “Legally Blonde” prequel “Elle,” HBO’s DC Comics adaptation “Lanterns,” and Apple TV’s “For All Mankind” spinoff “Star City.”<\/p>\n

Our watchlist also includes Netflix’s “Little House on the Prairie” reboot and HBO Max’s “Stuart Can’t Save the Universe,” the latest installment in the “Big Bang Theory” universe. Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> This is not your grandma’s “Amadeus.” Indeed, this irreverent five-part limited series, which originally aired on Sky, is based on Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award-winning play and chronicles the complicated relationship between musical genius Mozart (played by The White Lotus’ Will Sharp) and court composer Antonio Salieri (WandaVision’s Paul Bettany). But we’re here for “Black Dove” screenwriter Joe Barton’s funny, captivating, and decadent take on this famous story, and Sharpe and Bettany’s fresh take on a historically troublesome antagonist. \u2014 kimberly roots<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, quickly became a fan favorite on “Yellowstone” with her pithy one-liners and no-BS attitude. So why wouldn’t we be excited to be reunited with her and husband Lip (Cole Hauser) in the show’s latest spinoff? “The Dutton Ranch” moves the couple to South Texas, where they meet new enemies and friends played by Annette Bening, Ed Harris and Jai Courtney, and fight for supremacy in an entirely new setting. The Lone Star State will never know what happened. \u2014 andy swift<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> While we’d rather see a Legally Blonde sequel with Reese Witherspoon returning as Elle Woods, we’re cautiously optimistic about this Witherspoon-produced prequel series, which flashbacks to Elle’s high school days in Bel Air in the late 1990s. Not only is star Lexi Minnetree the queen of bends and snaps, but we’re always on the lookout for a nostalgic return to the world of colorful iMacs, spaghetti straps, and boy bands. As a bittersweet bonus, the show will also feature the late James Van Der Beek in his final role, as a school district superintendent who aspires to be mayor. \u2014 as<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> In recent years, DC Comics’ film adaptations have received mixed reviews, with the 2011 film Green Lantern receiving considerable criticism from critics and moviegoers alike. So it may come as a surprise to see HBO’s The Lantern included on the list of anticipated shows. But we’re encouraged by how skillfully James Gunn and Peter Safran have reinvented the DC Universe so far, and the first teaser trailer for The Lanterns hints at a buddy-cop energy between Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), and we’re curious to see how things play out. Also repeating that cast: Kyle Chandler? Aaron Pierre? These power rings are in very capable hands. \u2014 rebecca luther<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> I’m a 1980s kid who grew up on NBC’s Little House on the Prairie. This show holds a special place in my heart as one of the most wholesome television viewing experiences possible. That’s why I was so wary of Netflix’s upcoming film adaptations. I didn’t like “Anne With an E,” the streamer’s new take on “Anne of Green Gables.” And I was prepared for it not to live up to my lofty expectations. But the eight-episode first season I’ve seen so far is a sweet, endearing, engrossing retelling of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novel, starring Crosby Fitzgerald (“Palm Royale”) as Caroline and Louise as Charles. The cast is very well cast, with Chris Bracey (“Point Break”), Skywalker Hughes (“Joe Pickett”) as Mary, and Alice Halsey (“Days of Our Lives”) as Alice. Precocious little Lola. Netflix seems to agree: “Little House” has already been renewed for a second season. KR<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> After Orphan Black, I’ll be watching just about everything Tatiana Maslany stars in, but her quirky new Apple TV thriller seems particularly intriguing. Maslany plays a divorced soccer mom named Paula who gets into a heated online relationship with a younger man. (She may or may not be paying.) According to the teaser, the rabbit hole she goes down is very deep, the comedy is very dark – there’s a power saw involved – and Maslany looks in vintage shape when Paula gets in the way over her head…actually, that’s where Maslany is at his best. \u2014 Dave Nemetz<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this: <\/strong>Power creator Courtney A. Kemp is no stranger to fast-paced crime dramas, and her new series with co-creator Tani Maror promises to deliver all the sexy, high-octane adventures of her Starz series. Once again, there are two serious guys at the center of the show. A gentle thief, Coltrane Wilder (Ilan Noel, “Insecure”) and an obsessive LAPD detective. Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law, “The Oval”). Once again, the stakes are high. Coltrane needs one last high-end heist before he quits the game. Isaiah is obsessed with finding justice for his murdered partner. Fans of Kemp’s previous work will be delighted to see familiar faces appear in a whole new world, and those who came in cold will also find plenty to catch their attention. \u2014 KR<\/em><\/p>\n

Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> We love “Bridgerton” Diamond as much as lovers of the next Regency novel, but we’re also very curious about how characters like Mary Bennet, also known as the forgotten middle sibling in Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” experienced that era. In this delightful film adaptation of Janice Hadlow’s 2020 novel (which aired on the BBC earlier this year), Mary (Ella Bruccolelli, Call the Midwife) is overshadowed by her marriage-eligible sisters until she moves to London and embarks on a journey to find happiness and fulfillment on her own terms. As Apple TV’s alternate history drama “For All Mankind” nears its end — the show was renewed for a sixth and final season in March — the streamer is expanding its universe with spinoff “Star City.” This fictional version of the story of the space race is told from a Soviet perspective. \u201cStar City\u201d is in the trusty hands of \u201cMankind\u201d co-creators Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Why we’re excited about this:<\/strong> The Sheldon Cooper Cinematic Universe hasn’t let us down yet. Chuck Lorre & Company successfully landed the “Young Sheldon” plane in an emotional finale that foreshadowed the future of Sheldon’s “The Big Bang Theory,” and pulled off a rare prequel success with “Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding,” which will soon be entering its third season. However, a well-timed “Stuart Fail…” brought back series veteran Kevin Sussman. (Stuart), Lauren Lapkus (Dennis), Brian Posen (Bart), and John Ross Bowie (Kripke) in what promises to be the most ambitious installment in the series’ history, with Stuart tasked with restoring reality after Sheldon and Leonard destroy a device they built and accidentally cause multi-world Armageddon. And with promises of “otherworldly versions of the characters we’ve come to know and love,” there’s no telling which “Big Bang” and “Young Sheldon” vets will pop up next. \u2014 Ryan Schwartz<\/em><\/p>\n
