Of course, we never want our loved ones to actually get hurt. Still, when that happens, there’s something about their inevitable diva reactions in the aftermath that triggers a certain itch for me. Vicki Gunvalsson is the undisputed champion of this genre of gags, and my favorite scene is when she leaves in a wheelchair in Iceland after mixing Xanax and Adderall. And who can forget the intensity of Tammy lying on the floor of a Miami mansion as Shelly screams, “Someone call an ambulance!” Or Angie K cuts her finger in a seahorse costume. You might call it sadistic, but it’s great television!

K. Michelle, who is on a roll and providing top-notch entertainment for three consecutive weeks, continues her introductory series of Housewives and makes even more money with her own medical mishaps. Recovering from complications from her BBL, she proves she’s Bravo-worthy by dragging the glam squad to the hospital for makeup and perfect hair before getting a mani-pedi with Phaedra, Porsha, and Cynthia. It’s nice to see K. Michelle hanging out with the classic all-stars. Roa — there’s chemistry there and she can hold her own against upperclassmen. The only thing I wish she had followed in Vicki’s footsteps was come in a wheelchair, but the way she staggers up the stairs on the manicurist’s arm still acts like the diva I love. Phaedra peeks into K’s game and reminds her that she gave birth to a baby sitting upright with the whole world watching.

Hearing Phaedra’s callback made me sad for the time when she not only imitated Porsha’s aesthetic, but also regurgitated her rehearsed recitation in Confessions and prayed she would become a meme. After years of being exiled until she successfully progresses through a probationary period, she once again earns the position of full-time Peach Holder, but at what cost? In the process of trying to redeem herself from the drama that caused her exile, Phaedra lost the sparkle and courage that made her such a compelling character on television. She’s a natural villain, but her “Shade Assassin” reputation suffers during her comeback due to her obsession with appearing good and leaving her conspiratorial behavior alone for when the cameras are down.

There’s an argument to be made that Phaedra isn’t the only current housewife to suffer from this balancing act, Lisa Barlow comes to mind, but what bothers me is how little else she does to make up for it. At least Lisa works on it RHOSLClove her or hate her. I almost want to poke Phaedra with a stick to check for signs of life. This episode contains great moments where women open up about their lives and give us a glimpse of their vulnerabilities. We see Angela trying her hand at real estate again while grieving her mother, Drew dealing with a divorce, and Pinky filing for bankruptcy hoping for a fresh start. However, Phaedra only gets caught talking shit to Shamea off-camera, saying that Pinky isn’t a real vegan. This rumor is hilarious on the surface since everything about Pinky is vegan, but now that Phaedra’s seeds have sprouted in my brain, I’m do I think it’s a little strange that a PETA board member would marry someone who sells animal meat. She rightly claims that the rumors could ruin her money, but it’s interesting that she’s more upset about the financial implications than the ethical ones. The math is off, but I don’t really care who she marries or what she eats…but PETA might. Phaedra definitely knows where to throw the dagger, I’ll give it to her.

Beginners are also frustrated by Phaedra’s lackluster performance. During lunch with Cynthia and Pinky, K. Michelle asks suspiciously, “So what’s up with Phaedra? She’s just giggling.” Pinky makes a weird joke about Phaedra being “too busy eating dead people in the morgue.” Girl, what? As NeNe says, “It’s getting crazy.” Mentions of cannibalism aside (I cried out loud when she doubled over when she didn’t land first), they’re right to question Phaedra’s actions. As K said, “You can’t trust a lawyer who doesn’t practice law.” What the hell is Phaedra doing these days? We don’t see her in the courtroom, funeral home, or even practicing Reiki as she did back in the day. married to a medical scientist. Perhaps Phaedra should go the Mother Cynthia route, as a friend on the show who pops in and out of fun scenes, offering her two cents and providing a connection to the old days. Her scenes with Pinky and K. Michelle contributed to moving the season more than Phaedra’s contributions in the final three episodes.

Shamea seems to be the opposite of Phaedra and is completely over the top. Her rum business is the strange axis of her music career, but her husband Gerard is just as skeptical as I am. It offers a gimmicky brand aimed at housewives, similar to Meredith Marks’ Caviar and what Gisele and Ashley did with GNA. Gerard clearly believes this effort to be frivolous, using two sentences he assigned to himself during filming to say that he thinks business will be “okay” as long as she “makes the effort.” There’s footage of Shamea grilling the company he wants to work with, asking real business questions that his wife clearly doesn’t care about, and then abruptly walking away, saying it’s not ready for the market. But for Shamea, it’s not the feasibility of the venture that matters, but the screen time (and businesswoman-themed costumes) it will earn her. So she’ll ride this idea until the wheels fall off.

When Shamir is playing Business Barbie, we get our first instance of a revitalized K. Michelle after one of Porsha’s mindless comments ruffles her feathers. While at the nail salon, K shares how her infected incision led to two hours of reconstructive surgery. She begins with heavy bleeding at the Honor Academy of Country Music, and Porsha asks if she had a miscarriage. Judging by the look on her face, it looks like the insensitivity of that statement hurt K the wrong way, but she brushed it off then and there. However, after stewing for a while, she expressed her feelings through her Twitter fingers. This is something she has been doing since her college days. love and hip hop day to day.

The tweet simply includes the word “activated” in all caps: “I’m going to sit there and smile and look at the clock. I’m not doing any of that bullshit.” My favorite is the one that says, “Bimbo is the loudest and most confident. Close your face.” K. Michelle didn’t react in real time, so no one knows who the bimbo in question is until she explains her anger to Cynthia and Pinky. Cynthia, who knows Porsha best, immediately sees this situation as another case of the Porsha-ism fallacy. Cynthia said, “We all know that Porsha speaks before she thinks,” and that while Porsha owes K an apology, she’s sure there was no malice behind the comment. I agree. This accident is like Porsha delivering “Your Wounded Son and the Plow Daughter” to Kim Zolciak for all eternity. My guess is that Porsha was acting out her reaction for the camera and ad-libbing everything that came to mind when she heard about the blood to help the scene.

Cynthia knew Porsha’s inappropriate comment was an innocent gaffe, but K. Michelle didn’t think so. Because, according to her, Porsha knew about her complications before coming to the nail salon. Therefore, she interpreted Porsha’s actions to be a calculated shot, similar to what she witnessed when Porsha confronted Kelly over tea. Also, because of a bad experience with an old castmate that K. Michelle briefly talked about at the premiere, R.H.O.A. Given her reputation, she entered this area a little defensively, overthinking every move and assuming people were out to get her because of the storyline.

Both Pinky and Cynthia encourage K to give Porsha a chance to share her side of the story. The two had a productive conversation, with K admitting that the tweet was about Porsha, and Porsha promising to never mention miscarriages in a shady way, given her own experience with a miscarriage. They end the conversation with a fresh start, but it definitely leaves a bad aftertaste in K.’s mouth. I have a feeling this won’t be the last time Porsha’s lack of a filter will trigger the self-proclaimed “ex-crushout,” so I’ll be patiently waiting for K.’s next reaction and the tweets it generates.

It’s understandable that Drew doesn’t want to be honest about her relationship with Black because she doesn’t want to give her demon ex any more ammunition in the divorce, but that dinner scene didn’t solve her case.
