Arthouse distributor A24 did what any disruptor should do. It has created a niche market in an industry dominated by legacy players. That influence was heard loud and clear when Warner Bros. recently announced the launch of a new label aimed at distributing the mid-budget films that have been the bread and butter of A24. Indie distribution companies have been leveling up in recent years with projects like: civil war <\/strong><\/em>and Marty Supreme<\/strong><\/em>both cost over $70 million and grossed over $100 million worldwide. However, the distributor returned to its roots earlier this year. A horror film that grossed 40 times its reported budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
The film premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival, and initial reactions seemed to have viewers expecting what’s next paranormal phenomenon<\/strong><\/em>-Word of mouth sense of style. This micro-budget found footage film grossed nearly $200 million worldwide against an originally reported budget of $15,000.
