Often, it’s just hot air for fans to say that they could have done a better job than the person who supposedly ruined the object of their devotion. Fans are just being fans without any real way (or ability) to back up their claims.<\/p>\n

Unless, of course, that fan is That show from the 70’s<\/em>‘s Topher Grace made a huge splash in 2012 by actually showing what most people weren’t trying to pull off. He recut 85 minutes. star wars<\/em> First part. <\/p>\n

Topher Grace re-edited George Lucas’ three prequel films (418 minutes total) into one coherent feature film. And that’s good. <\/p>\n

In addition to reducing its running time (and making those cuts while maintaining a consistent storyline), Grace also changed things up a bit and refocused it from the prequel we know and discuss. Gone are all the pod races, unnecessary exposition, and cluttered, obnoxious CGI characters. Star Wars Episode I \u2013 The Phantom Menace<\/em>. Instead, Grace begins the movie with the end of that movie: the final showdown between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Darth Maul.<\/p>\n

It’s funny to think that most are phantom menace <\/em>It can be effectively eliminated without causing any real disruption to the overall story. George Lucas and company don’t look very good, but it speaks to the problem fans had when the first prequel was released in theaters.<\/p>\n

Topher Grace kept much of the action in the Lucas films, but removed the lightsaber battles unless they were relevant to the actual storyline he was highlighting. They mainly concern the relationship between Anakin and Padm\u00e9 and Obi-Wan’s search for someone plotting to assassinate a politician. <\/p>\n

Scenes that were removed from Lucas’ film, such as the scene where Padme takes Anakin home to meet his family, have been brought back to shed light on the characters and their relationships. In this way, Grace extracted relevant parts of the story that could be incorporated into the original final cut.<\/p>\n

This is another example of less is more, especially when it comes to Star Wars. True fans already understand the depth of the pain here. There was no need to hammer it home in such an obvious (and kind of stupid) way.<\/p>\n

Of course, it is not without its drawbacks. Cutting over 300 minutes from the series leaves some holes and things move at a pace that may feel strange to those who know the original. But according to the few people who have been allowed to see it so far, Grace’s film is thematically tight, action-packed and fun.<\/p>\n

Topher Grace’s cut, first completed in 2012, continued to inspire others to take on Star Wars editing jobs in the years that followed.
