Just a few months before its release, Spider-Man: Brand New Daythe next villain set to star in a new MCU movie is about to receive a major upgrade. As seen in Marvel’s latest film, Venom’s web In the series, Marvel debuted one of the most unexpected symbiote antiheroes of all time.
To be released in July, Spider-Man: Brand New Day It promises to be an exciting street-level story featuring Tom Holland’s Peter Parker’s enhanced abilities and some new villains for the web-slinger to face. This includes Fred Myers, aka Boomerang, a petty criminal and former roommate of Peter Parker in the original comics. First appearing in 1966, Myers was originally a professional baseball player before turning to a life of crime, and his signature weapon also became his namesake.
However, Boomerang has now received a massive and incredibly surprising upgrade in the comics. Venom’s Web #1 This work by Jordan Morris, Luke Ross, and Ramon Rosanas has become much bigger than he or his readers could have possibly imagined in the Marvel Universe.
Boomerang has become Marvel’s next symbiote antihero (no, seriously)
Over the years, Fred Meyers’ Boomerang has served as a fairly manageable threat to Spider-Man, but he’s usually been more comedic than anything else. Although the humor is still very much present, Venom’s Web #1Fred’s threat level has certainly skyrocketed thanks to his all-new symbiote partner.
Initially, Venom’s Web #1 Shocker’s recent death confirms that Boomerang has kept a very low profile, sticking to only minimal crimes and avoiding any related crises altogether. However, he ends up getting roped into Tombstone’s work to ensure the safety of his friend Overdrive. Although it wasn’t his intention, Fred ends up becoming an all-new host for Passenger, a new symbiote that has been kept in various labs for years since arriving on Earth.
Fused together, Fred and Passenger decide to become Comeback, an all-new symbiote anti-hero with a red and blue color scheme inspired by Spider-Man himself. Naturally, the whole thing is all kinds of weird, but somehow it works, and the unexpected and certainly unique premise should lead to an overall very enjoyable new Marvel series.
Boomerang to make MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The timing of this new series and Boomerang’s major new spotlight is no coincidence. After all, we’re just a few months away from Boomerang officially making his MCU debut. Spider-Man: Brand New Dayrevealed in the film’s first trailer.
What’s even more interesting is that he’s not alone. Tombstone will also appear alongside Tarantula, and both are briefly introduced in this first issue. Venom’s web. Clearly, the franchise synergy between Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios is firing on all cylinders ahead of Brand New Day.

Are you an avenger or just a friendly neighborhood bystander?
This doesn’t mean we expect Boomerang to make a comeback in the MCU anytime soon, but Marvel Comics has a habit of giving characters a new spotlight or series right before their live-action versions appear on screen. Hopefully this means that Boomerang’s role in future MCU movies will be bigger than a single scene.
Either way, it’s still pretty exciting to see Fred Meyers thrust into a new purpose and role in the Marvel Universe. Despite his best efforts to fly under the radar, it’s clear that “The Comeback” is about to make all kinds of waves, especially if the final pages of the first issue are any indication, as Fred and the Passenger face off against none other than Wanda Maximoff’s Sorcerer Supreme and more magical beings.
