With Milan Design Week in full swing, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite furniture designs to inspire your entry into the Dezeen Awards.
Centered around the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, this year’s Milan Design Week will run from April 20th to 26th and will feature hundreds of designers, architects and brands, as well as a number of must-see installations and exhibitions across the city.
From minimalist log-like perches to wooden furniture adorned with crayon marks, these seating and workplace furniture designs add a tasteful flair to everyday spaces.

Formwork by Ginny Monnier
A limited edition collection of minimalist furniture by Swiss design studio Gini Monnier combines spruce and oak salvaged from the construction industry.
The two-tone effect is achieved by combining light spruce and dark honey-colored oak in a series of chairs, side tables and wall-mounted shelves.

Designed by Swedish design studio Addi and manufactured by Mizetto, this minimalist log-like perch provides a resting space for users who would otherwise take up too much space with traditional seating.
Lumbar Seat was developed in response to the increasing amount of time people spend in what Adi calls “active yet anonymous spaces” such as cafes, schools and office waiting rooms.

Center Center by String Furniture
A flexible, modular system for the modern workplace, designed by Stockholm-based studio Form Us With Love for String Furniture, aims to show that “static storage is a concept of the past”.
Pegboard style furniture can be expanded both vertically and horizontally in response to increasing adaptability in the home and workplace.

Crayon Pine Written by Siri Sveborg and Adrian Barthel
This series of wooden furniture and lighting by Swedish designers Adrian Barthel and Siri Sveborg features a repeating pattern of marks made from colorful wax crayons.
Hand movements are visible in the rhythmic lines applied directly to the solid Swedish pine. This process “embraces irregularity and slowness as a form of innovation.”

Designed by Jonas Forsman for Nikari, this minimalist folding oak seat combines flexibility and comfort.
The lightweight construction features a curved backrest made from thin aircraft plywood that provides support, minimizes material usage, and folds flat for easy storage.

Upholstered in vegetable-tanned leather, this family of low tables is modeled after industrial silo construction.
This collection of sculptural volumes designed by Studiopepe for Uniqka features tubular legs made of paper, making the table light and easy to transport.

“Malma” by Cresson Koivisto Ruhn
Cresson Koivisto Ruhn designed this seating system for Modus Furniture. It consists of a series of circular chairs with round backrests that can be easily connected.
When connected, a series of chairs can be reconfigured into a variety of dynamic configurations, from arched to serpentine, to suit the user’s needs.

Designed by Konstantin Grcic Design for BD Barcelona, this flexible system for diverse work environments features a table top made from 90 percent recycled extruded aluminum.
