For nearly 87 years, batman It has one of the most famous superhero origin stories of all time. Similarly, the tragic murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne in Crime Alley have largely been portrayed as random acts of violence. However, there were also depictions that teased a larger plan behind Wayne’s murder (notable on-screen examples include dark knight Trilogy and Matt Reeves batman).
Now, the Absolute Universe has followed suit, giving Batman’s origin the craziest twist we’ve ever seen. Among the newly released Absolute Batman #19 In the film from Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, Bruce Wayne meets with family friend and former mayor Jim Gordon and reveals something game-changing that, if true, will not only affect Batman’s past, but also his present and future.
Following this new issue, some very strong evidence has come out that Bruce Wayne’s dark and tragic origins as Absolute Batman may not have been a coincidence at all.

Among other major announcements, including the debut of Absolute Batman’s new Batmobile, Absolute Scarecrow, and Absolute Robin. Absolute Batman #19 Introducing a mysterious project discovered by Jim Gordon while investigating the recent disappearance of Martha Wayne (who is still alive in this alternate DC Universe): The Batman Files.
The reader is not given the full picture before a paranoid Gordon attempts to burn the files, but we do see some key words such as “zoo” and “manipulated.” As seen in the first issue of absolute batmanBruce’s father was killed in a shooting during a field trip to the Gotham City Zoo, where Bruce himself had won a school contest.
As such, it has been suggested that the entire trip and Thomas Wayne’s death may have been orchestrated to directly result in Bruce’s later transformation into Batman. Unfortunately, Bruce is unable to interrogate Jim any further, and Gordon, in extreme fear and paranoia, throws himself off the roof. This is due to the newly introduced Absolute Scarecrow, who watches from a nearby rooftop.
It’s clear what Bruce has to learn and uncover about these mysterious files, but you have to wonder how real they actually are.
Is Absolute Batman’s Origins Twist legit (or just an elaborate manipulation)?
It feels like there are two main possibilities for this new twist on Batman’s origin.
The first is that all of this is true, and that Bruce Wayne was intentionally molded into Batman as part of a grander design in the making. Perhaps it’s all part of the design for this universe’s version of the Court of Owls, of which Martha Wayne is still alive. Perhaps Martha is gradually grooming her son to become the protector this dark DC Universe so desperately needs?
Additionally, it’s entirely possible that Absolute Joker is behind Batman’s origin. After all, it’s already been established that this long-lived billionaire has amassed enormous wealth coordinating and playing both sides of various conflicts throughout history. Assuming that’s indeed real, there’s a good chance that Jack Grimm V is the mastermind behind Project: Batman.

Similarly, Scott Snyder recently responded to a reader who pointed it out. Absolute Batman #4 The “Grinning Man” poster that was put up at the zoo the day Thomas died suggests that the Joker was always behind Batman’s origins in this world.
On the other side of the coin, this could all just be an elaborate ruse. After all, this new version of Scarecrow clearly thrives on fear and psychological warfare, somehow inducing his victims to harm not only themselves, but others. Perhaps Project: Batman is a false story designed to destabilize and destroy Batman? It’s also possible that Absolute Joker and Scarecrow are working together.
Whether it proves to be legitimate or fabricated, Batman will no doubt question his very purpose going forward, and the impact will likely be the same. So one thing’s for sure: Absolute Batman’s future issues are about to get all sorts of intense.
