Pakistani television drama ‘Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat’ has come under intense online scrutiny and been the subject of widespread online criticism after several scenes from the show went viral on social media platforms.
The series, which premiered on Green Entertainment on March 29, was expected to deliver a tense and gripping cross-border spy thriller. But instead of impressing viewers, it sparked a wave of memes, criticism and blatant comparisons to the popular Indian spy series Dhurandhar.
Starring Umer Ahlam, Momina Iqbal, Bushra Ansari and Javed Sheikh, the show revolves around espionage and the conflict between India and Pakistan. However, viewers said the drama lacked authenticity, with many pointing to a mix of awkward dialogue, exaggerated acting, and unconvincing accents.
Several viral clips from the show have been widely shared online, with viewers questioning the producers’ attention to detail. The most talked about incident concerned the alleged portrayal of Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai as RAW’s headquarters in New Delhi. The scene quickly drew criticism and became the subject of memes across social media platforms.
Many viewers claimed that the series seemed to be influenced by the success of the Dhurandhar series. With the release of Dhurandhar 2 and the series’ continued popularity, the comparisons are only going to get stronger.
According to reports, Pakistan’s entertainment industry has recently expressed interest in producing a project that would serve as a counter-story to India’s big-budget spy dramas.
Earlier, it was reported that the Sindh Information Department had announced Mera Lyari in response to Dhurandaar and even described the Indian film as “propaganda”. Although Mera Lyari is yet to be released, Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat has already grabbed attention.
Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, the Dhurandhar series has gained a strong fan following due to its scale, action sequences and storytelling. According to reports, the film has grossed over Rs 3,000 crore worldwide.
Dhurandaar 2 features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor and Manav Gohil. The latest film continues to be well-received by the audience and the comparisons with Jahanam Balasta Jannat are becoming more prominent.
Social media reactions to the Pakistani drama were largely negative. Many users described the dialogue as “chilling”, while others criticized the “unconvincing Indian accent” and “obvious factual errors”. Also, several viewers said they felt the production quality was weak compared to contemporary Indian spy thrillers.
What was supposed to be a full-fledged spy drama has now become a hot topic online for a completely different reason. Instead of being praised for its suspense and acting, ‘Jahannum Ba’raasta Jannat’ is currently being debated for its mistakes and inconsistencies that have distracted viewers from the story.
