If you want to be humbled by decades worth of uninhibited creativity that has somehow slipped under the radar, I highly recommend firing up Tubi at least once a week. This is not a paid ad, but if you contact the head of programming over there, I’d love to send you an edible arrangement to entertain me with hidden gems from the 2010s. Beyond the black rainbowand 1986-like, freewheeling sci-fi horror comedy neo-noir mystery thriller. eat and run. If that sounds corny, wait until you hear what this punisher is talking about.
The film only introduces a handful of recurring gags, and they’re all grounded. The main antagonist is a 400-pound humanoid alien who eats only Italians. Our protagonist is a down-on-his-luck detective who rants about his life in hard-boiled Private Dick style. His boss, who is always snacking and yelling, and who is dealing with a judge who has a habit of releasing dangerous criminals from prison, notices an increase in murders but is unable to connect the dots. everything unfolds like second rate police squaddespite its flaws, is still fascinating.
This guy is a stupid idiot!

eat and run Things are kept simple, so it’s best not to think too much while watching. When the morbidly obese Murray Creature (R.L. Ryan) mysteriously arrives on Earth, he immediately begins hitchhiking. He is picked up by an Italian merchant and eats the merchant. But we never actually see Murray eating. He smiles, showing his pointy teeth, and the camera zooms in on his face, then on the victim’s face, and the scene cuts to him spitting out what’s left, usually a shirt button.
Meanwhile, Detective Mickey McSorley (Ron Silver), who is forced to recount his life in real time, is bitten by the Captain (John J. Fleming). The Captain is always hanging out at his desk, no matter what time of day, and this gag escalates throughout the movie. First he’s obsessed with ice cream cake, and by the end he’s berating the delivery guy for bringing a six-layer cake when he clearly asked for a seven-layer cake.

When dozens of Italian men from competing crime families go missing, Mickey takes on the case, eventually leading him to Murray, but is unable to catch him at the scene. In between his romantic encounters with Judge Sheryl Cohen (Sharon Schlers), he sets up an elaborate sting operation. The judge’s record as a judge is questionable at best, but he always makes excuses after sex so he can take matters into his own hands. As a great detective, Mickey is completely unaware of his shortcomings in this aspect.
When the Italian food-eating adversary is finally arrested and cross-examined, his lawyer has him dress like a Boy Scout to appear innocent. Things only get more complicated when he is granted bail and goes on a buffet-style rampage, becoming obsessed with Cheryl.
this shouldn’t be a movie

The above scenario is extended to absurdity eat and runrepeating the same bit over and over again, escalating enough each time until the movie reaches its climax. remember most things SNLA based movie that does the exact same thing. think about 1994 It’s Patbut instead of endless jokes about androgyny, it’s about a fat guy who eats the mob.
It may sound like I hated it, but eat and runIt was actually a lot of fun. At 85 minutes, it feels like writer/director Christopher Hart overindulged in gags and padded the running time to reach feature length, but I can’t help but wonder how much better it would be if it was cut down to the length of a sitcom episode, or even a series of repetitive skits.

I’ve always loved neo-noir narration, so every time Mickey did a narration and the camera pulled back to reveal he was talking loudly to a room full of people, I laughed heartily. It’s silly, but I can relate. There were many times when I would walk around the house and my family would ask me, “What the hell are you talking about?” and I would feel like I was being watched.
eat and run is completely stupid, built on a very thin premise, and thoroughly runs through the gags before the first act is over. Also, they’re really funny not because they’re funny on their own, but because the humor somehow loops back and works anyway.

At the time of writing this article, eat and run is streaming for free on Tubi.
