The late night host celebrated her son Billy’s 9th birthday on Instagram on Tuesday, April 21. “Our son Billy turns 9 today and is thriving thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and so many others at @ChildrensLA and @CedarsSinai,” Kimmel wrote alongside a sweet photo of Billy holding a fish he caught. “CHLA trains medical staff to save children around the world. If you can, please make a $9 donation to support critical medical care for children. The link is in my profile. Thank you. #CatchAndRelease.”
Celebrities flooded the comments of the post with wishes for Billy’s birthday. “Happy birthday Billy. We love you so much,” Kimmel wrote. Jimmy Kimmel Live! Co-starring Guillermo Rodriguez. Viola Davis added, “Happy birthday!! You are blessed.”
Charlie Puth and Olivia Munn commented with some red heart emojis, and Johnny Knoxville wrote, “Happy birthday, Billie!! Too bad Jackass is ending because it could have been a new me!!” Henry Winkler posted, “What a day! What a fish.” Bonnie Hunt wrote simply, “Love.”

Billy is the youngest of Kimmel and wife Molly McNerney’s two children, including daughter Jane. (Kimmel also has two older children, Katie and Kevin, with ex-wife Gina Maddie.)
Billy was born in 2017 with a congenital heart defect and underwent open heart surgery shortly after birth. “Poor kid, not only has his heart gotten worse, but his face has gotten worse,” Kimmel joked on Late Night in May 2017, noting that she took Billy home just six days after the surgery.
Through tears, Kimmel thanked hospital staff and family and friends for their support in saving Billy’s life. We are so happy to have this baby together. I’ll definitely be getting a vasectomy after this. ”
Billy has undergone three heart surgeries, the most recent in May 2024. “We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and almost as much fear as a happy, healthy child with a new valve in his body,” she captioned an Instagram photo of Billy smiling in a hospital bed at the time. “Once again, Billy’s doctors, led by our excellent surgeon Mr. Vaughn Stearns, our cardiologist Mr. Tim Casares, and the excellent and hard-working staff, doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners at CHLA, including but not limited to Misty, Ann, Sylvia, Dana, Kaylee, Nick, Bekah, Julie, Kenny, Caroline, Lisa, Stephanie, Elise, Ivy, Pam, and Carrie, have stepped up for us with immense kindness and expertise.”
