How Sullivan’s Crossroads deals with Sally’s departure in Season 4 premiere: ‘I just hope he’s okay’ – TVLine

“Sullivan’s Crossing” returned to The CW for Season 4 on April 20, but the unexpected departure of one titular resident was widely felt. Scott Patterson, who played Harry “Sally” Sullivan in the first three seasons, will not appear in season 4 due to his character’s spontaneous decision to visit Ireland with Helen.

This leaves Maggie (Morgan Cohan) with the difficult task of running the outpost in his place, which is already weighing heavily on her in the premiere. “Sally just left, and we can’t let things go like this,” she tells Cal (Chad Michael Murray). McGee admitted she was “overwhelmed to see him leave like that” and explained that she was “surprised” by his decision.

Admittedly, there are quite a few details about the outpost that couldn’t be explained before Sally left town, so Maggie was relieved to think she might get a call from Sally at the end of the premiere. Unfortunately, it’s not Maggie’s father on the other end of the phone, but someone who has even worse news for her. (More on that later.)

And Maggie and Cal aren’t the only ones feeling Sally’s absence in season 4. When we first meet Edna (Andrea Menard) in the premiere, she finds out that her husband, Frank (Tom Jackson), is thinking about an old friend. Sure enough, Frank shared his concerns. “I just hope he’s okay. I know how he feels being on a plane.”

Why Scott Patterson left Sullivan’s Crossing

While Sully’s absence was easily explained in the premiere, Scott Patterson’s behind-the-scenes exit from “Sullivan’s Crossing” was much less smooth than his role. “Our creative differences have become unsustainable, and we have sadly come to the realization that we cannot agree to continue this show,” the actor said in a statement last month.

Patterson’s statement came on the heels of an interview with US Weekly with “Sullivan’s Crossing” showrunner Roma Ross, who explained: [Sully] Although not physically present this season, the character remains an important part of the world and could appear in future seasons if it fits with ongoing creative. ”

When that interview was published, Patterson felt forced to come forward and explain that it was actually his decision to leave the show, and not a decision made by the show for creative reasons.

“It is disappointing that it is being implied that they have left me and Sally when the truth is quite the contrary, and sadly those who have already spoken out are well aware of this fact and yet have chosen to say otherwise,” Patterson’s statement continued. “I didn’t mean to make any statements, but fans of this movie and show deserve to know the truth. We’ve always respected the people who support this industry and watch and love these characters, so we’re so lucky and happy to be able to portray them and bring them to life.”

What else happened in the Season 4 premiere?

Of course, there’s a lot more going on in Season 4’s “Sullivan’s Crossing” than just Sally being overlooked by the townspeople.

Liam (Marcus Rozner) tells Maggie he’s only there to get a copy of his invalid work visa, but the brooding photojournalist quickly becomes at home in Sullivan’s Crossing, with some locals calling him a “war hero” for his brave combat reporting. We also get a flashback to Liam’s proposal in Spain, and I’d be lying if I said Maggie didn’t look really happy at that moment. Unfortunately, it looks like Liam will end up spending more time in the area than he originally thought. At the end of the hour, Maggie learns that the annulment was improperly filed, meaning she and Liam are still married.

In other complicated couple news, Sidney (Lindyula) and Rafe (Dakota Taylor) still can’t see eye to eye on the subject of marriage. We thought this relationship was coming to an end, but we didn’t expect Leif to ask for a transfer at work. “It’s not fair for either of us to stay here,” Rafe tells Sidney as they pack up their things in their apartment. “You deserve to be with someone who sees the world the same way you do. So do I.”

OK, let’s talk. Do you miss Sally from “Sullivan’s Crossing”? Do you think it’s really over for Rafe and Sydney? What do you think about the Cal, Maggie and Liam triangle? Please rate Premiere in the poll below and add your thoughts in the comments below.
