During a recent appearance on the show, estranged Korn bassist Fieldy opened up a little more about his situation within the band and why he decided to announce his hiatus from the group in the first place. suspicious character Podcast.
Back in 2021, Korn’s co-founder bassist released a statement revealing that he was planning to take some time away from the group, explaining, “Over the past six years, I have been dealing with some personal issues that have caused me to fall back into bad habits at times and cause tension with those around me. It has been suggested that I take some time to heal.”
In doing so, he revealed that he intends to overcome those “bad habits” and shared that he did not want to bring “tension or bad vibes into the circle.”
Since then, La Diaz has played bass for the band, but vague statements and Fieldy’s long absence have left fans wondering if he intends to return and what caused his departure. In a new chat with Fieldy’s former pre-Korn LAPD bandmate Richard Morrill, he offers a little more insight.
What did Fieldy say about his reasons for taking time away from Cohn?
When Morrill asked why he decided to leave the band, Fieldy said (as transcribed by ThePRP), “COVID happened. That’s it. I was like, ‘I’m not going out anymore.'” That happened, because it was new. Now. I didn’t have any vaccines or anything, but when you think about it, that’s what happened. They say, “I’m going to Florida,” and I say, “I’m not going to get the vaccine.” I’m not going. ” I said, “Guys, things are weird right now.” But that’s what happened. ”
He added, “It gives me time to sit down. Once I sit down, I can think about it and it feels like I’m just waiting.” [for] What’s next, because I don’t know what the rest of today will be like. I’m enthusiastic about everything I’m ready for. ”
Looking back further, he added that the time apart gave him perspective on the band.
“It’s common for bands to do this. This is nothing new. I mean, from LAPD to all these bands. The Chili Peppers have Flea and Anthony.” [Kiedis]you know? It sometimes happens like that. For many bands, not just sometimes, but almost every time. It’s rare that they’re all the same [members stay]” Fieldy shared.
“When I look back on my life, I really enjoyed the almost 30 years I spent with Cohn. I mean, it’s… I can’t explain it. It’s like I’m aiming for the ultimate.” [thrill]…It’s not easy. But it’s a blast. I don’t look back and say, “It was the worst.” I mean, you can look at it and complain, but how are you going to complain? It was everything anyone dreams of. And I almost had to go like the vet. I spent 30 years here and now I’m here. I’m okay with that,” he added.
The question then arose as to whether Fieldy considered himself “retired” from Cohn. He replied, “I’m retiring from Cohn today, but we’ll see what tomorrow holds.”
What is Fieldy’s “tomorrow”?
During the chat, Fieldy confirmed that the photos he shared last year with Sepultura drummer Grayson Nekultman and former Fear Factory bassist Christian Old Walbers were part of a new project he was working on. While he shared his gratitude for Nect Root Man, he also revealed that all the drummers he has worked with throughout his career have been “sick.”

What kind of speculation was there around Fieldy and Cohn?
Until a recent podcast appearance, neither the members of Korn nor Fieldy had said much about the bassist’s departure.
In June 2022, Korn guitarist Mankey was asked about Fieldy at a press conference and commented, “He needed some time to rebuild himself at home with his family. We made a record during the pandemic and decided to use that time constructively. And when the pandemic was over and we were ready to go back on the road, he just wasn’t ready to do it yet. So the rest of us were anxious to get back in front of the fans and play in front of everyone.”

Later that year, Fieldy clarified that the “bad habits” he spoke of in his hiatus statement had nothing to do with drugs. Then he said, “I love those Korn guys. I’ve known them since seventh grade. We don’t have beef, but I don’t have a problem with them. You just support them. They’re trolling right now, and they’re done touring. But they’re killing. I’m going to be a Corn Fieldie for the rest of my life because that’s part of my heritage. They’re my homies and my brothers. We’re just in different places now, we’re not mad at each other. ”
And in February 2025, Fieldy basement story “I haven’t talked to those guys since 2019, so it’s like they’re both just doing it. They’re doing trucks. They’re machines. They’re progressing. It’s crazy. It’s crazy that they keep going like that.”
It didn’t seem malicious, but it also didn’t seem like it was coming back. But fans got their hopes up again when Fieldy was photographed among a group of musicians, including Korn drummer Ray Luzier, during the NAMM convention in Southern California in January of this year.
And earlier this month, Fieldy once again appeared on stage in California, where he had the opportunity to participate in Breaking in a Sequence and cover two of Korn’s hits. Although no longer part of the group, Breaking in a Sequence was founded by former Korn drummer David Silveria.
But despite Korn’s occasional public nods indicating his friendly relationship with the band, Fieldy’s latest statement: suspicious character The podcast seems to indicate that he has retired from the group for the time being.
