On her way home, Grace realizes she miscalculated and is forced to choose between staying on course and saving Rocky. He chooses the latter and ends up in Elid, Rocky’s hometown. The Eridians repair Grace’s ship and give him a chance to return home, but Grace is in no hurry. And in the movie, he is left there happily in Elid with his best friend.
There are several things to make project hail mary It’s a very special production, and bringing everyone back for the sequel is both incredibly important and incredibly challenging. First, we need Grace and Rocky. Without both, the movie wouldn’t work. So, perhaps you will tell a story about how, thanks to the discoveries of two people, other planets were saved. Or another catastrophe may occur that requires their expertise.
However, both of these ideas miss another important element: friendship development. Again, one of the fun things is project hail mary We watch humans and Eridians, two very different beings, learn about each other. Understand each other’s customs. each other’s language. Now that Grace and Rocky are friends, there’s no doubt there’s some humor in play for that, but will it be able to capture the same emotion, or even fill an entire movie? Very doubtful. Perhaps a sequel could introduce a third species to accomplish this feat, but that seems a bit repetitive.
And, again, simply recreating the Rocky and Grace relationship in some way would be missing the last important element: stakes. reason project hail mary That means the mission seems impossible. There’s no way it’s going to work. And if we don’t, two planets’ worth of life will die. There are few stakes higher than this. So whatever new story unfolds will require it as well.
I mean, I’d be happy if that were the case. project hail mary It remained a one-off. With two great characters, great dynamics, and a world-saving stakes, it’s perfect as it is. Still, if Andy Weir has a sufficiently exciting idea, we reserve the right to scrap this article altogether. But only if that happens. Without Weir’s ideas, which he believes won’t detract from the original, we think any attempt at a sequel could be a potential disaster.
